Question. I just recently bought your book “SEO Fitness Workbook 2016” (love it by the way) and just started going thru it.
I am not sure if you covered this in the book or I just missed it, but I wanted to know when writing articles for a blog for an eCommerce website, how long should the article or blog post be? What is the acceptable word count in Googles eyes?
I have read and heard that it can’t be too short and the longer the article the better. Can you please give me what is an acceptable length for an article as far as word count goes for SEO purposes?
Thanks. Again, Great book!
First of all, you have to realize that to Google content on the Web is just content on the Web. What I mean is that all of it is just HTML documents, and whether we call it an “eCommerce page” for a product, a blog post, a home page, or even just a regular page on a website… they are all just HTML documents, and are pretty much judged the same way. It’s the combination of good On Page SEO and good Off Page SEO that will get any page to the top of Google, regardless of its type. (Just to clarify I am talking about HTML pages, not things like Adobe PDF’s which are deprecated by Google).
That said, then you have some rules for creating strong SEO-friendly content.
Finally, when you are done writing a good SEO-friendly piece of content such as a blog post, do not forget the critical importance of links. Internally link FROM your home page TO your key content around your target keyword phrases. Externally, get links FROM other pages to your key content pages, including but not limited to your home page. Do not forget social authority and mentions – have your content Tweeted and shared on Google+.
It is the combination of everything that will get you success in SEO. Good luck!
