Medium answer: if you are going to “go to the cloud” use a Google Blogger blog, and NOT WordPress.com, as Blogger is much more SEO-friendly than WordPress.com.
Longer Answer.
I am a fan of WordPress, in general, but not of WordPress.com. WordPress as “software” that you “install” on your own website (WordPress runs this blog on SEO tips, for example), is fantastic. Especially if you download the Yoast Plug in, which is the No. 1 SEO-friendly plug in. Then you embed Keywords in your Title tags, etc., and all that fun on-page SEO, stuff… and you’re AWESOME.
WordPress.com, in contrast, is hosting your blog on their servers. They have pretty much crippled it, requiring ads and making it difficult, or impossible, to install and run Google Analytics. It’s also hard to host a blog there, and point a domain to it. Blogger, in contrast, is FREE and it’s SUPER easy to set up and cross-connect to a DNS / hosting account – so for about $7.00 per year, I can run Jason+, my blog on Blogger. Can’t beat it for an easy and cheap blog hosting solution.
So WordPress.com: NO. WordPress: YES. Blogger beats WordPress.com. DONE. OVER AND OUT.
