Question. Hi Jim… can you advise I am trying to set up my google free adwords account… has the system changed since you published video on keyword planner… thanks Steve
Yes, unfortunately this has changed. Basically, BEFORE you can use the keyword planner, you MUST set up an AdWords account, including linking it to either a credit card or bank account. Here are the steps, and some tips / suggestions.
At that point you have a) identified a credit card, and b) set up an AdWords account including your first campaign / group / and ad, and c) you have now paused it.
Next, click on the TOOLS menu at the top and find the KEYWORD PLANNER. At that point, you are “inside” AdWords and can use the tool to research appropriate keywords for either AdWords and/or SEO purposes.
I am not against advertising on AdWords – don’t get me wrong. It’s just that the marketing department at Google must have thought that putting customers through this totally confusing and annoying process somehow was a good idea. Go figure! You can watch my video on the Keyword Planner, and follow the steps there.
