Question. Just finished your SEO Fitness Workbook 2016. I have one question, I have read a few other books, Eric Enge’s (Art of SEO) and Evan Bailyn‘s, and your book differs from Evan’s in that he dismisses the importance to Google on what is on a site while you go into great detail how important it is to connect a site to Google.
Answer. I’m not sure I completely understand the question. There are two ideas implicit in here, perhaps three –
On Page SEO = content, tag structure, and interrelationship of pages to each other around keyword phrases, etc.
Off Page SEO = links (most important), social mentions / social authority (including Google+).
And the relationship / relative weight of them all.
Here is my take on them, based on my own experience as well as that of my clients and students who have either taken my class, or read my books.
I am a big fan of the ART OF SEO. But this is a book written NOT for the general public and NOT for the average small businessperson. It’s a book written BY the cognoscenti FOR the cognoscenti, and it should be read as such. It assumes a lot… and it is embedded in the older technical school of SEO as opposed to the newer, more flexible content and social school of SEO.
I’m not against “technical SEO,” but it is no longer sufficient. You want GREAT content AND great links AND great technical SEO – the whole package.
Hope this helps!
