Question. My husband and I are working through your SEO Book, (SEO Fitness Workbook 2016), and making great progress on our website. We are web designers, but typically outsource any SEO needs that our clients have. We are trying to do the do-it-yourself for our own website, and I have a couple of questions regarding my home page. We had our blog articles in the footer, but the workbook mentions having them on the home page. Will it be more beneficial if I move them up into the home page itself? Also, we have a portfolio on the home page that displays “Works” custom post types. Is this diluting our link power on the home page and should these just be images without hyperlinks? Another issue with the portfolio is that when testing our page on Google’s Structered Data tool it thinks these portfolio items are blog posts and is giving errors because they don’t have author, date published, headline, etc. I’m concerned this is hurting us, but I am not sure what to do about it. Our website is ~ if you want to take a look at what I am talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Always first things first. Some analysis of your ON PAGE SEO –
I Googled your company name and Google shows your business as PERMANENTLY closed. YIKES. It looks like you moved from the bigger city to a smaller city. Google+ REVIEWS are one of the most important if not THE most important factor to helping you climb to the top of locally relevant searches. So –
In addition to REVIEWS, of course, you have your INBOUND links, of which “press release” SEO is relatively easy (but low quality), but also go look for relevant directory links (both in your industry AND in your local city). Also be sure to set up Twitter and Google+ and post to them. Those are minor, but easy, so you might as well.
Hope this helps!
