Question. I hear so much about “social media marketing” and about “SEO” but not as much about email. Yet when I sit down with our CEO, look at our Google Analytics, and discuss where our inbound calls and sales leads come from, I find out that our email marketing efforts seem to really work. What gives about email marketing? Is it as good as social media marketing?
YES! Email marketing is the Rodney Dangerfield of social media marketing” it don’t get no respect. Here’s a Rodney Dangerfield quote for you:

But back to email marketing. It works. It really works. For a number of reasons:
So #1 email works, and #2 it don’t get no respect. That said, you should try to create email relationships with potential customers and existing customers. Try to give something away, try to be useful, try to engage in what Seth Godin calls “Permission Marketing.” If they like your emails… if they really want your emails… you have discovered a marketing goldmine.
Oh and one final deep dark ugly secret of all the social media platforms. They use email to promote themselves. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn – they ALL frequently email (spam?) customers with updates, reminding them to “log back on” and see “what they’re missing.” So, ironically, the hip-and-happening social media platforms ALL rely on using email spam to increase the usage of social media.
