Question. Hi Jason. I am taking you up on your offer of advice. Thank you.
1. Objective: I need to target aspiring home chefs to direct them to my (in progress) website as cheaply as possible.
2. My geographic scope can be country/ global.
3. I am considering using “experts” blogs to do this.
a. Do you have any advice on paying/ recruiting expert bloggers to achieve this objective?
b. Any better/ alternative advice to achieve the objective?
Thanks a lot!
I don’t know if they had the Energizer Bunny commercials “down under,” but up here in the United States, it’s become part of the lexicon. It just keeps going and going and doing. That is what blogging is for SEO: a gift, a tactic that keeps going and going and going. So, first up – blogs of any type, the better quality the better of course, are GREAT for SEO. Once a site has the basics down, which of course I teach in my online SEO classes, then you’re ready to blog.
Before you dive into SEO and blogging, I would advise some long and hard thinking about: ‘Riches are in the Niches.’ You want your website, blog, content to focus on a WINNABLE and GOOD niche… Just cooking of course is too broad. So find a niche and dominate it. Then, off to blogging, which is great for SEO –
But blogging isn’t just easy. If the purpose is to show for relevant searches, you’ll need more than just “great content.” On my least of pet peeves is the phrase “content is king,” and all the hype these days about content marketing. YES content matters. YES blogging is great for SEO and Internet marketing. But ONLY if it is well structured in terms of tags (e.g., “talks to Google” via on page SEO) and ONLY if it has sufficient inbound links / link juice behind it. The rules of the SEO game don’t change for blogging, and good content (like writing a good book on Amazon) is a NECESSARY but not SUFFICIENT condition for success.
So here are things to think about –
THEN… you get to promotion. Hopefully your “expert bloggers” will have their own websites, and link juice. If not… you’ll need to BUILD LINKS and/ or get your blog posts to be LINK BAIT. The external part of SEO blogging – OFF PAGE / SEO – inbound links is the most difficult. But a great blog post can be LINK BAIT in and of itself and can be used on social media.
So blogging is a necessary but not sufficient condition for SEO success. It needs to be backed up by some sort of link-building system / strategy.
