Question. Okay, so educational are best used for blog, transactional are best used for landing page. What is the highest and best use for branded keywords effectively?
Branded terms come in two basic variants. First, the branded terms of competitors. In that sense, you might think of creating blog posts or other content that compares YOU to THEM. For example, GEICO vs. PROGRESSIVE: a COMPARISON. Or, in our case, the merits of taking an SEO class at the SMX Conference from Bruce Clay vs. the merits of taking an online SEO class from Jason McDonald. So you a) identify a competitor name, and b) create legitimate comparative content that gets you on the Google page for a search for that competitor name.
The second type of branded search is your own name. So if someone Googles Jason McDonald, you want them to find Jason McDonald. But beyond that, you get to Reputation Management. If someone Googles your company plus words like “review” then you want people to see positive stuff. So compare JM Internet Group Reviews vs. Bruce Clay Reviews. You want to pay attention to your online reputation, and create blog content, website content, and most importantly – inbound links – that optimize for not just branded searches but branded reputational searches.
Branded searches are an often overlooked but INCREDIBLY important search for Internet marketing. Don’t miss them on your Keyword Worksheet and strategy!
