Q: How do we move up our listing in Yelp and in turn Google searches?
You want to think about Yelp as if it is a search engine. So, first, claim your free listing on Yelp. Then optimize the listing by plaxing the types of keyword phrases and search queries that people type into Yelp. If you are a San Francisco CPA firm, for example, enter into your Yelp description phrases like ‘San Francisoc CPA’ or ‘Top CPA in San Francsico,’ or “Small business CPA firm,” etc. All of the search engines – Google, Bing, Yelp – clearly reward listings that regurgitate the exact phrases that people are searching into their listings / search results. So No. 1: populate your listing in an elegant, well-written way with the phrases that real people search for.
Second, you want to think about Yelp and Google as working together as part of your SEO / Social Media strategy. By populating your Yelp listing with niche / focused keyword phrases, you can often get your Yelp listing to show not just on Yelp but on Google search. So Yelp listings can really, really help pull traffic in this way: from Google to Yelp, inside of Yelp to your Yelp listing, and from there to a customer inquiry by phone, email, or web landing. It’s not Yelp OR Google – it’s Yelp AND Google!
