Question. Is making a website on Wix SEO friendly or would you prefer it in word press. Can we use flash at all?
Short answer: WIX is terrible for SEO. I do NOT recommend WIX for SEO. It’s a train wreck of a platform.
Before you decide upon a CMS platform, do some research. Using the basic principles of page tags and SEO as we learned in the class today, analyze some “real websites” built in the platform. For many, if not all, WIX-based sites, you’ll see these bizarre calls to off page AJAX commands and what not, with some marketing-speak about how the source code of the page is “over there” and not “in the page.” Then if you call / contact WIX customer support they’ll spin you a long and silly yarn about how this is all good and wonderful.
Google adss to the problem by asserting that it can read things like AJAX or FLASH. But please, please, please:
SEO is an evidence-based effort. Do Google searches. See who is in the top positions. Look at their websites, view source. How many WIX-based websites do you see? How many FLASH-heavy websites? I thought so: not many.
Compare this with WordPress-based websites. There are many, many WordPress sites that do fabulously in terms of SEO. Because WordPress with a little work yields very nice, very “traditional” HTML. No funny AJAX here.
