Q: Since it is apparent that Google is putting the marketing power back to a website, is there a site that shows what the trend of keywords the general public are searching for? (IE: how to fix my car, what is a christmas tree, where can I buy a real christmas tree)
(By marketing power, I mean requiring less outside SEO techniques and focusing more on on-site SEO techniques.)
There are quite a few tools and websites that will give you some idea of the keywords by which people search Google. The most important tool of course is that new and improved Google keyword planner.
I have a tutorial and video on how to use that tool, which to be serious is a pretty difficult tool to use. Unfortunately Google did a very poor job with the new version, and it is significantly weaker than the previous version. However, you have to realize that Google has over 90% of the search volume, and therefore it is essentially a monopoly source of this information. There are other third-party keyword tools, but with the near total monopoly that Google has search, no one is really able to give you more accurate data than you would get from Google itself.
If you follow the link to my tutorial on the Google keyword planner, and you register, you can get my list of the best free tools for keyword discovery. Good luck!
