Question. Is there a range for search volume/PPC $ that we should be looking for (a certain price range or number or searches?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Rather, the way to think about it is to think strategically first and foremost. Riches are in the niches. Try to identify keywords that closely connect your potential customers and their needs to what you offer! If you are a pizza restaurant in Evanston, Illinois, and you offer pizza and Italian food, as well as catering for weddings, then your connection points in terms of keywords are pizza, restaurants, Evanston, Italian food, catering, and weddings.
I would rather you do zero keyword research in terms of the tools and instead have a better focus on what are precisely the keywords that someone would into her into Google that are definitely your customers!
Philosophically, the tools are only tools, and your best tool is your God given brain and instinct.
That said you will definitely see patterns some keywords are higher volumes than others, and others have a higher PPC. Eyeball the keywords in the tools looking for those keywords that are in a sort of sweet spot with higher volumes and higher PPC’s, and also as we learned in class today pay attention to transactional keywords. It is better to optimize on lower volume transactional keywords then higher volume educational keywords.
There are no easy answers here this is where SCO is sort of like a sports, and you’re learning how to aim your bow and arrow at the target. You’ll be a little shaky at first.
Another big Is measure, measure, measure. Use Google analytics as we will learn in the class, and identify which keywords are truly bringing in traffic and also converting, and constantly be learning and relearning what keywords are really valuable. Like any sports this is not something that you do once and quit, but something that you do again and again and constantly learn in the effort.
