Q: Do you want to link your personal Google+ acct to your corporate Google+ acct?
Q: I had a competitor contact me and told me to cease and disist our site since the content was copied…. I had writtent he content myself many years back so how would google see that as far as who had the rights to content?
Q: Are there any pitfalls to using web builders like GoDaddy or Wix (since they are cheap)?
There are a lot of questions here, so let me answer them in turn in reverse order. First, GoDaddy and WIX for SEO – a mini review of GoDaddy and WIX for SEO. GoDaddy: good. Wix: bad. GoDaddy’s website builder is built on traditional SEO and works great for SEO on page optimization. WIX uses AJAX and, despite what WIX says, WIX is terrible for SEO. So if I were to review WIX I would give it a firm ‘thumbs down.’ But GoDaddy is great.
Second, in terms of a copyright dispute, at that small level, I don’t think you would ever get a real person at Google to really care. You can complain in Webmaster tools about copyright violations, but they are not a true high priority at that level. So I would just ignore the competitor’s complaint. There is little he, or you, can do. What you DO want to do is position yourself as the originator of content but a) being first to produce the content, and b) obtaining inbound links to that content. That will cause your site / content to be higher on the results page than imitations.
Third, in terms of Google+, there are three different flavors of Google+. Google+ personal gets you a) your picture on Google results, and b) authorship clout. It is the most important. Google+ Local: this is all about local SEO. If a business is local, this Google+ business page is VERY VERY important as I teach in our classes on local SEO optimization. Third, Google+ corporate pages. Not a ton of utility here. Set them up / tell Google you love it. Oh, and 4th, Google+ +1 button – this has some utility, if you can get your customers to +1 your pages.
