Q: Recently, i’ve had offers from companies to do a full SEO for my small business. they want $1000 to start and 800 per month to keep it up. Is that reasonable?
Of course the answer is “it depends.” In selecting a good SEO service company, the hard part is selecting an honest, thorough company. Most charge an initial set up fee, and then charge an hourly rate to revamp a website. Then you decide if you want to go on a month-to-month plan. We do lots of SEO consulting ourselves, and generally charge per project, by the hour with a monthly rate.
The important thing is metrics. Make sure when you start with an SEO company or consultant, that you specify a) the keywords for which you want to rank, b) the metrics or KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) for which you want to measure. Any SEO company worth its salt should be willing to engage in metrics, and tell you with some accuracy how difficult it is to ‘get ot the top’ of particular searches. It varies with each industry and the competitiveness.
So the rate, per se, is less important than the metrics and the result. Start with a small project, measure your success, and build a trustworthy relationship. That is how I recommend we engage with out own clients. Good luck!
