Question. My question is about using blog entries in conjunction with social media (specifically facebook & twitter) to drive traffic to my website and improve SEO. I have a website for my small business and also have a blog and post an entry about once or twice a month. Once I post/publish a blog entry I then usually wait a few weeks and post the same content in Facebook and Twitter. Here’s my question: By posting the same content on different platforms (Blog, Facebook & Twitter) is this helping or hurting my SEO efforts?
Answer. They all help! I think of your blog as the “there there” of social media. Often you point to it, from your social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Google+. The sharing of links is clearly important to Google, so – in fact – rather than “hurting” your blog, you are “helping” it in terms of SEO by mentioning it on social media. Indeed, if you can get others to “mention” your blog post (what is called ‘social mentions’ in the business), that’s a good thing.
Note that probably Google+ is the most important social media for SEO. It is owned by Google, so it makes sense that they would favor it. So I would definitely “share” your blog posts on Google+, especially your Google+ personal profile. I do a lot of this, and you can check me out on Google+, here.
