Q: My website was hacked and the former developer got me blacklisted from SEO through spam. I My rank fell from 5 to 0.5 in 2 months. I didn’t realize it for a year. Once discovered I’ve been working to overcome. It’s still not working, how do you suggest I recover? Do you have any information about the new Keyword tools Google has changed?
Well, second question first. I produced a video on the new Keyword Planner at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwstmbQDsr8. In that video I go through the differences between the old keyword tool and the new keyword planner. Realistically, the new keyword planner is not as good as the old keyword tool, but Google being Google they essentially give us no choice. I also have a blog post on alternatives to the keyword planner which you might want to check out.
As for your second question about your website being hacked, blacklisted, spam and all that stuff you have to figure out if you are being penalized by Google’s and if that penalty is algorithmic or manual. And algorithmic penalty means no individual has singled you out for punishment, and you need to recover by adjusting to the new post Penguin algorithms. A manual penalty will show up in webmaster tools and is in a sense easier to recover from because you’re dealing with a human being at Google and they give you some indication of what you’re in trouble for. So be sure to sign into webmaster tools to find out if your penalty is manual or algorithm.
There’s no telling how long it will take to recover because each situation is unique.
