Q: Also comment about Hubspot? Not working well for us.
Q: Do we need to update the XLM maps on our web site when we add new pages?
Q: Question: Post Panda and Penguin, is it safe to use Senuke xCR to create back links?
HubSpot of course has carved a niche for itself in what is called ‘inbound marketing.’ I have had some occasion to use their software for some of our clients, and I actually think it’s pretty good, especially the blogging platform. But, a lot of what HubSpot does for you you can do yourself at a much lower cost.
So for example, you can just set up a WordPress blog and blog yourself, you don’t really need the hub spot platform to do a good blog post. In fact if you download and install the Yoast plug-in then your WordPress blog will really be as good or better than the hub spot blog platform.
Similarly with metrics, you can use HubSpot or you can use Google analytics. What HubSpot attempts to do is to bring all of this into one place and make it easy to use and I think they do a pretty good job of that. But the last time I checked it’s about $700 a month and that’s a lot of money to pay for software that really isn’t significantly better than free solutions.
What’s really problematic about HubSpot and SEO is that no tool or service can do the thinking for you and as I teach in my own classes the biggest tip about search engine optimization is to use your best to all, your own brain. You have to understand your customers. You have to research your keywords. You have to write those great blog posts. No platform whether it’s hub spot or word press can do this for you!
Yes, you do need to update your XML sitemap each time you update your site. There are programs that can do this automatically at little cost. And as for the Senuke xCR, I don’t recommend any aggressive link building right now (June, 2013) because of Google’s very aggressive Penguin update.
