Q: How can I check if we have a robots.txt file? Please let me know what to type in to get this information.
Q: One click gateway: we use a drop down menu to get directly from the landing page to the dedicated topic – is this comparable to a real “one click gateway” where the content and subcontent is shown at the landing page or should we change the drop town to a webpage like you have shown in your webinar?
The first question is easy. Just type into your browser URL bar:
If you get a response… that’s your robots.txt file. If not, it doesn’t exist. There is only one location for the robots.txt file and that’s it. It’s not a requirement, but it is a best practice.
Secondly, scroll into your robots.txt and you should see a line that explains where your XML sitemap is.

This is what an HTMl sitemap is a best practice. It allows you to have a clickable path from the home page, to every other page.
You also want one click access. EVERYTHING that is ONE CLICK from the home page is heavily emphasized by Google. So be sure to use that home page wisely. A good structure (as you see on Progressive.com):
Remember that you want your main keywords on your home page. Google pays incredible attention to the text that is visible on your home page. So get keywords and key phrases onto the home page.
