Q: Do you need to have your site content contain a high density of your key words?
Answer. Content is king on the Internet. Or is it? Realistically, it’s well-structured content that is King. Keyword density plays into this issue as SEO-friendly content has a much higher keyword density than normal writing. Google and many of the pundits would have you believe that Google is perfect at understanding content, but Google is really just a computer and the computer is not as intelligent as a person (!), and consequently SEO-friendly content needs to be much heavier than normal English.
What’s the best density? This varies industry by industry and of course is going to vary as Google tweaks its algorithm, but a good tip and rule of thumb is about 3 to 5% density. More important than raw density, however, is the way that content is written. Google is increasingly able to detect normal sentence structure and what is called latent semantics. So your content needs to be close to how normal people speak or write, but at a higher density than normal. How’s that for a tip or a paradox?
The best thing to do is to go Google keywords and look at the types of content that Google is rewarding. Even if that is not in your industry but is in one of the competitive industries like online insurance you can still use it as a model for how to write strong content for the search engines
