Question: I just noticed in your WordPress blog the tag <strong>. This brings a question to mind … does Google prefer, or prioritize, <strong> or <b>?
Answer: That’s an interesting question! First and foremost, remember that tag structure and SEO is a hierarchy. The TITLE tag is clearly the MOST IMPORTANT tag for SEO purposes. After that, tags like H1 / H2, A HREF, and IMG alt attribute are very important. Downstream from there, having keyword heavy content.
The Google document does not specifically refer to the BOLD and STRONG tags, so there is no clear guidance here. My hunch is that the ‘older’ tag family which is the STRONG tag is probably better. So I do tend to use the EM and STRONG tags around strategic keywords; just remember that if a keyword is REALLY important the best thing to do is to embed it in the TITLE tag, and/or cross link content across your web pages around this tag.
