Question: So if I have an image of a dentist…Would I say Dr. Bob Savage- Savage Smiles-Family Denistry?
Answer: Images are more important for search engine optimization than people think. So, yes, absolutely if you are a dentist and you have a picture of the dentist on a webpage, for search engine optimization purposes you do not write picture of Bob Smith. Instead, you write alt equals picture of Bob Smith, top Miami Florida dentist.
The Google algorithm clearly sees an image with the alt text defined as reinforcing the title tag and the rest of the content on the page. So my rule of thumb for a blog post, for example, is to have at least one image per page with the alt text attribute defined and thereby reinforcing the title tag, and the whole page is laser focused on one specific keyword!
