Question: What do you forsee as any emerging trends in SEO?
Answer: There are many emerging trends in search engine optimization. This is a particularly exciting time to be involved in Internet marketing, because we are seeing the conversions of SEO and social media marketing. So the first top trends for 2013 that I see is the convergence of social media and search engine optimization. Google is allowing you to show your picture on search results, if you cross link your Google plus page at a personal level to your website. In addition, having many followers on Facebook, twitter, YouTube, and other social media networks clearly helps your search engine performance.
Everything and anything relating to authorship is being fueled by the connections between social media marketing and search engine optimization. So once huge emerging trends is to build your authority and your ecosystem by nurturing a community of people around your business. The idea that search engine optimization exists on the one hand and social media marketing on the other is a false dichotomy.
A second big trend in search engine optimization has to do with micro data. Rich snippets, of which authorship is an important example, are major trends in search engine optimization. This is how Google is building out the knowledge graph, and this is how Google is showing things like stars for reviews on search engine result pages. Go to schema.org for more information.
Finally, I would say a third trend is that Google is cracking down on purely technical search engine optimization. It used to be that you could just do some manipulative things with your on page and you’re off page SEO, and not worry about your community for writing good content. But after Penguin and Panda, those days are gone. We are going through a social and and authorship revolution in search engine optimization, fueled by the connection between search engine optimization and social media marketing.
