Question: Keywords – Would you recommend using keywords that are branded for another company to drive competitiors traffic to your site?
Answer: What an interesting question! There are two interesting angles here. First, your OWN company / brand name. You definitely want to monitor your own name and get to the top of Google for your own name! Depending on how unique your company name / brand is, this is either easy or more difficult. This also connects with reputation management. People will often search for ‘reviews’ of a company; so you want to pay attention to this sort of branded search.
Secondly, you want to pay attention to your competitor’s names. You can often do SEO on competitors names and brands, and then show up on those searches as well. For instance, you can write blog content with a competitor’s name and then the words reviews. Or you can compare / contrast what you have with what they have; and this co-branded content can get to the top of Google as well.
So in both scenario 1 and 2, branded searches are incredibly valuable for an effective SEO strategy!
