Question: How do you have content when you are an e-commerce with products, not services?
Answer: E-commerce websites have special challenges. First and foremost, you can create ‘non-ecommerce’ pages just like on any regular website to optimize for SEO and bring in traffic. So a strong blog, strong web content, etc. is VERY helpful to an e-commerce website to have a ‘parallel’ website / web content following all of the basic rules I teach about SEO.
Secondly, on the actual e-commerce product pages all of the usual rules apply. GREAT TITLE Tags for each product, STRONG meta descriptions, an IMAGE with the ALT attribute defined as keyword heavy etc. All of that is important. As we will learn in the SEO class on website structure, you want non-parameter URLS (no question marks, % etc.).
Third, reviews of the product are very helpful. Having customers review your products can create user generated content (UGC), and with ‘structured data’ you can get Google to display and reward you for these reviews. So encouraging reviews is a huge factor for e-commerce, akin to ‘comments’ on a blog site.
