Question: Do we want to avoid search engines displaying our websites on ODP?
Answer: The Open Directory Project which is sometimes called the DMOZ is very old at this point in time. Similarly Yahoo originally started as a directory and there was a Yahoo directory to the Internet which is older than the Open Directory Project and was originally thought to have some benefit for search engine optimization.
Today however I do not believe that neither the Open Directory Project nor the Yahoo directory have any significant value impact on Google and search engine optimization. So I would not stress whether your company is listed in either directory.
That said, that said, as we discussed in class today with in a specific industry for example the wedding industry there are industry directories blogs portals listings lists of the top best websites etc. that are all important. So within a particular industry I would try to identify industry directories and get listed in those directories.
Given that you are a tour company you need to identify tour company directories and directories that are relevant to the geographic areas that you target and get indexed and included in those directories. I would not worry about the Open Directory or Yahoo both of which are nearly dead if not completely dead.
