Question: In Webmaster tools>Configuration>Settings – there is a preferred domain section giving three options one being ‘don’t set a preferred domain’ which is what mine is set to – I do have a radio button next to ‘Display URLs as www.hondaoakland.com – what
Answer: The preferred domain means are you going to answer on www.jm-seo.net, or just jm-seo.net. You want to SET a preferred domain in Webmaster tools, and also using your .htaccess file generally make sure that it responds on ONE only. For example – http://jm-seo.net redirects automatically to http://www.jm-seo.net/ and we have set our preferred domain in webmaster tools to be http://www.jm-seo.net.
That’s a very important point. Why? because www.jm-seo.net and jm-seo.net could be TWO websites to Google, and you want to avoid any confusion / duplicate content issues. So yes set a preferred domain both on Webmaster tools and via the .htaccess file.
