Question: We have 3,000 plus pages in our online store everythingattachments.com, where do you start?
Answer: Strategy is where you start. Define the “high level” short tail keywords such as ‘tractor attachments’ and think SYNONYMS like ‘accessories’ or parts. Those high level are going to be important across the site, as are the words like accessories.
Then on your micro pages on your shopping, each page should be laser focused on the type of product, plus think about HELPER words. For instance, http://www.everythingattachments.com/Tractor-3-Point-Hitch-Bale-Unroller-7N-for-4-5-p/lb-bale-unroller-lb7n.htm. Bale unroller would be the keyword. Use Ubersuggest.org and get the related searches – bale unroller for sale bale unroller skid steer big round bale unroller build bale unroller besler bale unroller hay bale unroller baler
Then figure out on each product, which are the most ‘logical’ helper keywords.
So what you end up with is a ‘division of labor’ with micro pages on the e-commerce pages, and the home page / main landing pages on the higher level pages. I usually build a website from the ‘bottom up’ / starting with the specific pages and do the home page.
We will cover this more in the class on website structure, but I can’t emphasize enough to think of your keyword structurally rather than just in terms of volume or value. Think about them as ‘gateways’ for how real customers might actually search and struture the website to reflect those ‘gateways.’
