Question: I work at home, use a PO box, how can I get listed on Google Places?
Answer: Good question. First, you can list on Google+ local and HIDE your address if you like. So that’s an easy option. You do that inside your listings. Second, you can go to a private company like Mailbox etc., and use their address. I recommend using an ‘off label’ service to that Google is less likely to realize it.
It’s sort of stupid. Lots of people work from home, and yet one to have a public physical address and Google+ local page. But Google hasn’t put much thought into how to deal with consultants and contractors who have this sort of arrangement. Google is a monopoly and like most monopolies, it’s pretty lazy. So work around it using a Mailbox etc. or private label.
I think it is a bit stronger to use an actual address than to hide your address. So if local matters to you, I strongly recommend a public physical address on the website and cross-linked to Google+ local.
