Question: Does that mean that there’s roughly twice as many searches than what we see since lots of people do their search while they are logged in?
Answer: Yes, it does. ‘Not provided’ occurs when people are SIGNED IN to their Google account and your website is NOT https:// (secured). In that scenario, Google does NOT share the keywords data with you.
Lots of SEO people are upset about this; it’s just an example of Google not sharing keyword data, but they DO share it with AdWords advertisers.
