Question: As a national brand, I’d imagine localization isnt as important. Correct?
Answer: That depends. IF searches are local, then localization matters. If you are HOME DEPOT, you are a national brand with local offices… so local SEO matters a great deal. If you are GEICO, local search doesn’t matter so much.
What I recommend is detailed keyword research, and then inventory your searches. Is Googel localizing those searches? If so, then you need a local SEO strategy. If not, not. We have found, for example, that a search for ‘SEO Training’ is often localized into ‘SEO Training Houston’ or ‘SEO Training Dallas’ and so we optimized on all sorts of local search phrases, even though our own value proposition is ONLINE SEO Training. But you have to reach out to the customer / Google. They are never wrong when it comes to SEO.
So, in sum, the answer is the IT DEPENDS answer.
