Question: Is keyword density still recommended at 3-5% per page?
Question: We just used Wordle to create a word cloud for a Facebook cover image
Question: Is there any research that shows whether Google prefers WordPress sites over other CMS’?
Answer: Keyword density is part of SEO content management. A good keyword density rule of thumb between 3-5% density for any page. So if you have a web page targeting the phrase, ‘Industrial Fans for Agriculture,’ you would want about 3-5% density for that phrase. You also need to write a relatively beefy page with about 250 words or so.
But beyond keyword density, Google is looking at ‘natural syntax.’ What is natural syntax? Subject, verb, predicate – just as your High School English teacher taught you. So rather than a page that just says Industrial Fans for Agriculture Industrial Fans for Agriculture Industrial Fans for Agriculture Industrial Fans for Agriculture Industrial Fans for Agriculture Industrial Fans for Agriculture… You want want that says, ‘Looking for the best industrial fans for agricuture? We are the number one vendor of fans used in agriculture and agri-business. Check out our latest fan, the super dooper farm fan, which has many industrial and agricultural uses.’ ETC.
So it’s not just density – it’s also natural syntax.
As for your WordPress / CMS question, I think it’s clear that WordPress does have an advantage over other CMS platforms. I do not have any concrete proof of this, just some experience with really bad client sites (just starting their SEO journey) that have WordPress and their blog posts are nearly instantly pickedup by Google. So Google somehow clearly recognizes WordPress blogs and prioritizes them. But, that said, I think you can do great SEO on almost any platform as long as you follow basic rules in terms of SEO tag structure / output – ultimately, Google sees just your SEO / html output and not the CMS system that produced it.
