Question: Speaking of ‘doing your head in’ what is a fair estimate of time to put into the keword search before it’s fair to say you’ve exhausted your possibilities?
Question: Does the ‘landing page’ = ‘home
Answer: In terms of how deeply you should research keywords, generally – 1st, do some broad looking, as I teach in the class. Look at your competitors’ keywords, related keywords, etc., survey yourself – in the sense of define what your target keyowrds are vs. your target customers. I find many businesses, just don’t have a very tight sense of the ‘inbound keyword patterns’ by which their customers search.
Then, generally, after a few hours of researching and soul-searching, you’ll find the same keywords occurring again and again and again. So then you pretty much know you have the basic keywords. So build out your keyword worksheet, as I show in class, with a focus on ‘inbound keyword paths.’
As for landing pages vs. the home page, we wil get into that further into the course. Right now, just realize that strong SEO websites ALWAYS have a defined landing page that corresponds with ONE keyword family. Take a look at geico.com and you’ll see tighly defined landing pages for each type of insurance that they sell. That’s how it’s done.
