Question: : If I have a one page web site with multiple sections, is it ok to use more than one H1?
Answer: Best practice: Put the SEO keyword in the TITLE tag. Re-inforce it with ONE and ONLY ONE H1 on the page. Then use a few H2, H3, etc.
But, that said, the H1 / H2 header tag family has been so abused and used incorrectly on websites, that I find Google is pretty lenient. If you just use it AT ALL, you’ll be a leg up on competitors. If you don’t use it, and you are showing up on your Google rank, then it may not be necessary. The H1 / H2 is a tool in your toolbox – you don’t absolutely have to use it.
That, vs. the TITLE tag which you absolutely POSITIVELY MUST use to talk to Google. You can’t succeed without good TITLE tags. You can without a good H1 / H2 structure.
