Question: Isn’t it possible to associate text (metadescription tags) with flash, javascript, frames and/or images?
Answer: Yes, it is possible and you should do it. In particular, using the ALT attribute to tell Google what an image is, and to place SEO-friendly keyword in the ALT attribute is indeed helpful. It makes my list at the FACE CARD level of SEO-friendly tag ideas.
Similarly, you can use text behind Adobe Flash, etc. But those uses are deprecated and not very useful in terms of SEO. Is Adobe Flash SEO friendly? Not really. Basically, think about it like this. CAN I (Jason McDonald) eat Hawaiian BBQ? YES. Do I like it: NO.
Can Google index FLASH? Yes. Does it like it: NO. How do we know this. Do competitive searches… and look at the results returned… you will NOT find 100% Flash site anywhere. You will see keyword heavy sites, that use page tags properly. So you can’t really win a competitive search with FLASH, Javascript, PDF or some other non-HTML standard language… They are the Hawaiian BBQ of SEO. Google just doesn’t like them vs. traditional HTML, text heavy pages. (No offense to the Hawaiian BBQ crowd!).
