Question: How to compete when a business name matches your long tail almost exactly?
Question: Need to clear cache so search not impacted by prior search results?
Answer: If you are competing against a business that has the same name as yours, or the same as in a long tail keyword, you can still get there. There are 10 slots on the Google page, and if it is a long tail search, it is always far easier to get to the top. So that in and of itself isn’t a problem.
Remember, that search is not just about one single keyword but about many hundreds even for a small company or vendor. So you want to achieve SEO across a range of keywords / key phrases not just one.
As for personalization of Google results, Google is CONSTANTLY personalizing results… so you want to 1) sign out, 2) clear your cookes, and 3) even change your IP address is possible. Remember also that localization matters, so you can use the item on the left of a Google search to change your local area, as it shows DIFFERENT results often depending on where you are physically located.
