Question: What do you suggest if we’re not selling a product per se. but want to capture people with a certain lifestyle or interest?
Answer: So I looked at your site. It seems to be a Canadian politician. For SEO, you have to identify searches that people might make and then focus on those searches. An example would be a piece of legislation that people are very interested in, and might search for – issues pro / con, etc. Then you can blog / create content for the elected official’s positions on that issue to show up and get his positions out there. It is very KEYWORD DRIVEN in terms of SEO.
Your social media also becomes important. Getting constituents to blog about you, blog with you, let you guest blog…. Think about items that people will ‘share’ or position th elected official as an expert on Google+ – these are ways to reach out to a community. It is definitely more challenging than a traditional business, but there are still many ways to leverage the Internet. For SEO, you MUST start with what they are searching for.
