Question: For a small business, how to generate news releases, especially an e-commerce site?
Answer: News is all about tooting your own horn. You have to think shamelessly about what would make a good news release for an e-commerce site. Press releases can be about new products, trends in the industry, even specials. Support you are a candy store / e-commerce site and Valentine’s day is coming up. You can issue a news release about the types of candies that you think will be hot that year, plus discounts., etc. Something to the tune of ‘Jason’s Candy Shop Announces its Valentine’s Day Candy Specials for 2012’ etc. etc.
Another idea is to go to competitive sites, or sites in other industries. Read their news, and see if that sparks any ideas of similar news for your site. Go to prweb.com, prlog.org, and/or pitchengine.com and look at the news that they are running. Again, think about structurally replicating those news releases. Imitation is the highest form of flattery; so look at what other people are doing and mimic their news releases, of course with YOUR KEYWORDS.
News is one of those things that you have to put your mind to identifying what is new and exciting at your company. For e-commerce, these would be new products, specials, trends in the industry etc.
