Question: Will sites with home pages with flash intros but little text be less effective? Can these keywords be on pages further in the site?
Answer: Adobe Flash is NOT NOT NOT SEO-friendly. This is a terrible rumor perpetrated by Adobe and supported by Google (of all people!). Adobe flash does not HELP you with SEO and it doesn’t really HURT you – it’s basically invisible. So a flash ‘splash’ page is terrible for SEO, and really really terrible if it is your HOME PAGE as you are throwing away your most valuable asset.
So if you are using Adobe Flash use it as a supporting platform for HUMANS. It is NOT for Google. Google likes text heavy pages, period. End of story. This drives me nuts as it does so much damage to so many businesses!
That said, you can use Adobe Flash for humans on the website. The rule of thumb is put the eye candy / flash at the top of the page for humans. Make sure you have text for Google lower on the page, and in the all-important TITLE tag. You can also identify some pages on your site to be FOR HUMANS and therefore heavy visuals / heavy FLASH and others for Google to be heavy text. That’s another work around.
