Question: 1. How many keywords should we have?
2. Should each separate landing page of its own focused key word?
3. How many keywords should be on the home page?
Answer: Question 1: Each page should be laser focused on ONE KEYWORD family. Example: geico.com landing pages. Note how there is one for motorcycle, one for ATV, one for RV – they are not jumbled together. So question 2 – yes, each landing page should focus on one keyword family – I.e., very closely related keywords.
The home page is more complicated. It can’t just be on one keyword family, but it is the most powerful page on the website. The TITLE is limited to 66 characters. So, in general, place your most important keywords on your home page, beginning with the TITLE tag. But, it needs to act as a ‘gateway’ to your major landing pages. The relationship between the home page and landing pages is part of the ‘art’ of SEO.
