Question: Does every page on your site need to be written using keyword density, or just the homepage?landing pages?
Question: Can you optimize your homepage and specific landing pages to rank for the same keywords or is it better to pick one over the other?
Question: Do characters such as dashes, pipes, colons etc effect the effectivness of the page title tag?
Answer: There are quite a few issues here. First, question No. 1., not every page on a website has to be SEO-focused. Your home page, MUST be used for SEO if SEO matters to you, as it is the most powerful page on the website. But the home page has to carry a lot of weight, and cannot be laser focused on just one keyword. Take a look at geico.com and see how the whole page is all about insurance, but it is also a ‘gateway’ to individual sections – motorcycle insurance, RV insuranace, etc. Notice also that it is very text heavy.
As for individual landing pages, again on Geico.com, you’ll see that individual pages are LASER FOCUSED for one keyword family. I often use the motorcycle insurance pages as an example, and compare that with other pages on the site: ATV, RV, etc. Each is laser focused on one type of insurance. So on your own website, have a good keyword heavy home page, and individual landing pages that are laser focused on ONE.
Question No. 2, is related here. Basically FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS. For landing pages, you want a laser focus. For the home page, not so much. But the home page should be used effectively, and the Home Page TITLE tag is very, very powerful vs. target keywords. You just have limits and must make choices.
Characters do not have much impact on tags vs. SEO. But I do NOT recommend just stringing together lots of keywords as the comma comma comma structure looks spammy to Google, and may not bring clicks from surfers. Try to put some pizzazz into your title tags!
