Question: Any suggestions on how to get satisfied clients to put reviews on review sites? We like to be sure they are pleased with our service, then send them our yelp link. However, most don’t take the time to fill this out. We could send the yelp link initially to everyone, but worry that we may get a few negative reviews if we don’t make sure they were pleased first, then offer the review site link.
Answer: Oh isn’t that the $64,000 question! How do you encourage reviews on Yelp / Google Places. First and foremost: ASK. You are going to ask 100 customers to get 1 to place a review – that’s just how it is, but each review is worth its weight in gold.
Second, pro-actively incent customers to review. Give them discounts or kick backs if they do a review, even though this is technically against the official policy. You have to incent them to do a review. I would not pay them for a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ review – but I would think very seriously about every type of appeal to get people to review. One huge problem for the review industry is that the ‘silent majority’ of happy customers do not review like the minority of active reviewers or unhappy reviewers… So you have to incent them to compensate.
