Question: How, for example, would a “roofing company” use these tools? I can’t imagine anyone would blog or tweet about roofing.
Answer: Yes, that’s hard. Your basic companies like ‘roofing companies’ might not find Facebook the best marketing vehicle. But whenever I teach social media marketing, I emphasize that you should do an inventory of what you have, what people might like to hear about, and the best venues. That said, you’ll find that for a roofing company the best social media venue will easily be Yelp / Google Places (local search) and so the efforts should go towards encouraging local reviews.
Not every social media fits every company; the trick is to identify the biggest bang for buck venues. That varies.
