Question: Do I really need to be on FB? If so, what’s the minimum I can do and still have it be worthwhile? Can I do a personal profile that business colleagues will not see? Do I need a personal profile in order to have a fan page? How much do I have to “work” a fan page? I could go on and on.
Answer: Facebook is great IF it makes sense for your company. Facebook is all about friends, sharing, a friendly, fun atmosphere. So a company that focuses on Feng Shui, for instance, can build a great Facebook presence – as people WANT to learn / share about Feng Shui. If you are a divorce attorney, in contrast, people aren’t so keen about sharing on Facebook – so Facebook isn’t very great. SEO is where it’s at for divorce attorneys.
Facebook has a personality, and the question to ask is whether your marketing jives with that personality. As for your other question, yes, you need a personal profile to be the administrator of your business Facebook page. Without that, your business page is rather crippled.
We cover this, of course, in our classes on Facebook / Social Media Marketing in a lot more strategic depth.
