Question: You mentioned people ‘bidding’ on keywords. What does that mean when they are bidding?
Answer: Bidding is how Google AdWords advertising works. Advertisers ‘bid’ on a keyword and – generally speaking – the higher the bid for a keyword / keyphrase the more likely they are to show up on that page, near the top. (It’s more complex than that, but that is the basics).
Now, for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) it’s useful to look at advertising bids – as that gives you a clue where there is value. Why? People bid higher on phrases that are more likely to be customers in LATE STAGE or BUY mode. Then, you can turn around and target these same phrases for SEO. You can then try to get there for FREE. So you are optimizing not just on high volume keywords, but high value keywords.
