Question: My top competitors don’t have web sites but dominate Google? Seem to get listed because of white and yellow pages.
Answer: Yes, you can get onto Google / Google Places without having a website. One way is to be included already in sites lke Yelp, Citysearch, Judy’s Books, etc., – having a LISTING on these local review sites is a way – as Google will pick up that listing, and then customers might call you from the listing itself.
In addition, you can create a listing on Google Places without having a website. So that’s another possibility. There you just need to log on to http://www.google.com/places and claim / create your listing.
However, it is of course better to have a website in addition to being listed in these local services. And, remember, that if they are showing up on Google without websites, it’s a sign that your industry isn’t that competitive. With a little work and knowledge as we teach in our classes, you should be able to beat them, easily.
