Question: Where can I learn more about Google Marchants so my company can show up better on Google Shopping? I just tried to set it up and my programmer says it is much deeper than just setting up the link on the backend.
Question: How many keywords can you give a product or page before becoming spammy? What is the average number of keywords per proudct/page?
Answer: To get a product listed in Google Shopping, just Google ‘Merchant Center.’ That will take you to the log in page. Unfortunately, Google names things in a crazy way – you have to KNOW that Google Shopping IS Merchant center. Then getting in isn’t that hard – create an XML product feed that is keyword heavy.
That’s the easy part. The hard part is a) not all searches generate a shopping component, so you have to know your keywords some of which may and some which may not generate shopping, b) you have to format your XML correctly, and c) you need REVIEWS. Reviews are critical to succeeding at Merchant Center / Google Shopping / Products.
As for your second question, FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS. Usually I recommend that a product or a page on a website be laser focused on ONE keyword family. VERY closely related words. If you muddle it, you will not succeed. Nigerian proverb: Man who goes after two mice, catches none.
