Question: The pairing of CITY/SERVICE OR PRODUCT seems to be likely keyphrasing that is viable. Are there other schema that are known as effective?
Answer: Absolutely, right on. For many, many local businesses, their city / state / surrounding communities ARE their keywords. So an ‘AC Repair Company in Dallas’ needs to optimize on three sets of keywords: 1) AC, 2) Repair, and 3) Dallas and surrounding cities. The city name needs to be placed strategically in tags such as the TITLE tags of the website, AND you need lots of city-specific content on each and every page. Many companies make the mistake of only including their city on their ‘about us’ page, and thereby their whole site is very weakly optimized for their city. In addition, they forget to include nearby cities (Dallas, Plano, Irving, Garland AC Repair, etc.).
There is another parallel universe: Google Places. As we teach in our session on Local search, the bottom line for Google Places is to get LOTS of keyword heavy reviews in your LOCAL community over time, and have those correctly interlinked to your reviews on Google Places. Finally, the SEO aspect of your website (optimized for local search) will then connect with the Google Places aspects.
It is very important to understand that cities, towns, suburbs – to Google – are indeed ‘keywords.’
