Question: Someone we engaged to do SEO on our website suggested that we have no more than 10 or 12 keywords. is there any limit or having too many keywords affect negatively?
Answer: Yes, you can have too many. The TITLE tag is the most powerful tag on any page and allows only 66 characters, so you MUST focus. FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS is what I say. So, take a look – for instance – at the subpages on geico.com, as I teach in the class. There is one focused on ‘Motorcycle Insurance,’ and another one on ‘RV Insurance.’ Each is LASER FOCUSED on one keyword family.
The home page is special and has other issues, so you have to watch there. That’s the ART of SEO. But beyond the home page, most pages should just focus on one keyword family.
