Question: What about other search engines?
Answer: In my experience, few clients have more than 10-15% of their inbound search traffic from Bing. And Bing is also now the search engine of choice for Yahoo. So it’s a Bing vs. Google world, with Google commanding upwards of 90% of inbound search traffic.
Now, officially, Google has a 70% market share. But I have had many, many clients and have never seen one with a 30% inbound traffic from Bing. So I think that the public is mislead on this – it’s largely a Google world.
So, first and foremost, optimize for Google in terms of SEO. Second, if you succeed at Google, you will largely succeed at Bing. It will follow. With limited resources, I would prefer to focus on sites like Facebook or Yelp, that are very complementary (and competitive) to Google and really DO matter. Unfortunately, Bing does not.
