Question: What is the “competition” rating in Google Keywords?
Answer: I actually get this question so much, I just made a quick YouTube about this – http://www.jm-seo.net/serious-humor/AdWords-competition-meaning.html.
In simple terms, it is a very rough estimation of how many people are bidding on that keyword. Imagine a church auction. It’s a representation that many, many people are raising their hands and bidding: HEY! I want that keyword!
The implication is if you can find keywords that others do not recognize – find value that others do not see, you will do better – especially on AdWords but also on SEO. Riches are in the niches, I always say: Try to identify narrow, focused keywords that are great matches between what you have and what your customers (or in your case as a non-profit, stakeholders) have. Those are easier to win on, and will perform better for you.
